Jō-ō Virgin Hostess Manga to Get Live-Action TV Drama

posted on by Evan Miller
Cutie Honey The Live actress Mikie Hara to star in drama adaptation

According to the latest issue of Shueisha's biweekly manga magazine Business Jump, the seinen manga Jō-ō Virgin - Roppongi night GP part II will inspire a live-action television drama series. The drama will air during TV Tokyo's late night block of drama programming, "Drama 24," beginning on October 2. Cutie Honey The Live lead actress and former model Mikie Hara will play the main role in the Jō-ō Virgin drama. Natsuko Tatsumi, Reon Kadena, Saori Hara, and Yuma Asami will also star.

Jō-ō Virgin is the second incarnation of the manga seen to the right, Jō-ō (which loosely translates as "princess"). The series is written by Ryō Kurashina and drawn by Nao Kurebayashi. The first series tells the story of a woman who works in one of Japan's ubiquitous "hostess bars" and competes to win the grand prize in a "Hostess Grand Prix," while Jō-ō Virgin focuses on a group of young women who are eligible for a new Grand Prix competition because they were born in the Heisei era (the year 1989 or later). The original series was already adapted into a television drama in the same time slot in 2005, making this the second time the series has been adapted for a live-action format.
