Japanese Box Office, August 1-2

3rd Shippūden film at #5; 12th Pokemon film, Gokusen, Eva: 2.0 stay in top 10

Kunihiko Yuyama's Pocket Monster Diamond & Pearl: Arceus Chōkoku no Jikū e, the 12th film in the Pokémon anime franchise, stayed at #2 below David Yates' Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince on Kogyo Tsushinsha's Japanese box office chart during the August 1-2 weekend. According to Box Office Mojo, it earned US$3,088,054 on 366 screens in its third weekend to add to its total of US$27,675,384.

Naruto Shippūden: Hi no Ishi o Tsugumono, the third Naruto Shippūden anime film based on Masashi Kishimoto's Naruto ninja manga, opened at #5. It took in US$2,012,340 at 266 screens.

Gokusen the Movie, Tōya Satō's live-action theatrical film based on Kozueko Morimoto's Gokusen school comedy manga, fell from #4 to #6 in its fourth weekend. It earned US$1,888,533 on 409 screens for a gross-to-date of US$23,611,973. After three television series, Yukie Nakama is reprising her starring role of Kumiko "Yankumi" Yamaguchi, the high school teacher with yakuza ties, one last time for the film.

Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance (Evangelion Shin Gekijōban: Ha), the second anime film in Hideaki Anno and Khara's four-part theatrical remake of Gainax's Evangelion television anime series, also dropped from #5 to #8 in its sixth weekend. It earned the equivalent of US$988,246 on 122 screens for a total of US$31,243,870.

Rookies: Graduation (Rookies ~Sotsugyō-), Yūichirō Hirakawa's theatrical finale to his live-action television drama adaptation of Masanori Morita's Rookies baseball manga, dropped from #7 off the chart in its 10th weekend.
