Mature comedy film from creator of Devilman, Mazinger Z, Cutey Honey

A live-action film adaptation of The Abashiri Family (Abashiri Ikka) manga by manga and anime pioneer Gō Nagai (Devilman, Mazinger Z, Cutey Honey) has been revealed at a Tokyo press conference on Wednesday. The mature gag comedy centers around the Abashiris, an infamously violent crime family whose deepest secret is revealed: the youngest son and strongest family member is actually a girl. Idoling!!! group member Erika Tono-oka stars as Kikunosuke, the daughter who tries to live a normal schoolgirl's life by enrolling in Paradise Academy. However, the school's faculty and student body happens to be filled with torturers and killers.

The film will open in Tokyo on November 21. Nagai created the original 1969-1973 manga in the first issues of Akita Shoten's Weekly Shōnen Champion magazine. Studio Pierrot already adapted the manga into a four-volume video anime series (pictured at right) which ADV Films released in North America.
