3 K-On! Image CDs Debut on Same Day, Rank in Top 10 (Updated)

1st anime to put 3 character CDs on weekly top-10 chart simultaneously

The Oricon survey firm reports that the three K-ON! character image CDs that simultaneously shipped on August 26 all ranked in its latest weekly top-10 singles chart. This is the first time that three releases credited to fictional characters from the same anime have appeared on Oricon's weekly top-10 chart simultaneously. In the TV Anime K-ON! Character Image CD Series, the K-ON! image song for Azusa Nakano ("Jajauma Way to Go") rose to #3, followed by Ritsu Tainaka's "Girly Storm Shissō Stick" at #5 and Tsumugi Kotobuki's "Dear My Keys ~Kenban no Mahō~" at #6. They sold 28,000, 26,000, and 25,000 copies, respectively.

The previous record-holder was Macross Frontier, which placed two CD singles at #7 and #8 with songs by the characters Sheryl Nome, Ranka Lee, and Bobby Margot on December 24. The "Cagayake! Girls" opening theme for the K-ON! anime peaked at #2 in April and has sold 1,459,000 copies as of this month. "Hōkago Teatime," last month's two-CD mini-album "performed" by the five K-ON! characters, became the first anime character CD release to top either the weekly album or singles chart. The 2009 anime adapted kakifly's four-panel comedy manga about a budding high school band.

Update: Oricon has updated its article and removed the sentence that stated that the "Cagayake! Girls" song has sold 1,459,000 copies.
