Japanese Box Office, September 5-6 (Updated)

The third film in Yukihiko Tsutsumi's three-part adaptation of Naoki Urasawa's 20th Century Boys manga stayed at #1 on Kogyo Tsushinsha's Japanese box office chart during the September 5-6 weekend. According to Box Office Mojo, it earned US$5,739,027 in its second weekend to add to its gross-to-date of US$22,893,123.
Takashi Yamazaki's live-action Ballad: Namonaki Koi no Uta period drama film opened at #2 with US$2,493,590. Tsuyoshi Kusanagi of the SMAP entertainment group stars in this historical romance based loosely on the plot of the award-winning Crayon Shin-chan: Arashi wo Yobu Appare! Sengoku Daikassen film.
Mamoru Hosoda's Summer Wars film stayed at #7 in its sixth weekend. It garnered US$601,281 for a total to date of US$13,555,058. Kamen Rider Decade: All Rider Tai Dai-Shocker dropped from #4 to #8 in its fifth weekend. It added US$488,732 to its cumulative box office of US$19,418,091. Kunihiko Yuyama's Pocket Monster Diamond & Pearl: Arceus Chōkoku no Jikū e, the 12th film in the Pokémon anime franchise, fell from #5 to #9 in its eighth weekend. It added US$363,607 for a gross-to-date of US$48,412,133.
Shinsuke Satō and Production I.G's Oblivion Island: Haruka and the Magic Mirror film slipped from #10 off the chart in its third weekend.
