Japanese Box Office, September 12-13

Third 20th Century Boys film's third weekend on top

The third film in Yukihiko Tsutsumi's three-part adaptation of Naoki Urasawa's 20th Century Boys manga stayed at #1 on Kogyo Tsushinsha's Japanese box office chart during the September 12-13 weekend. According to Box Office Mojo, it earned US$3,468,065 in its third weekend to add to its gross-to-date of US$29,982,550.

Takashi Yamazaki's live-action Ballad: Namonaki Koi no Uta period drama film dropped from #2 to #3 in its second weekend. It garnered US$1,753,874 for a total of US$6,829,590. Tsuyoshi Kusanagi of the SMAP entertainment group stars in this historical romance based loosely on the plot of the award-winning Crayon Shin-chan: Arashi wo Yobu Appare! Sengoku Daikassen film.

Mamoru Hosoda's Summer Wars film fell from #7 to #10 in its seventh weekend. It garnered US$443,210 for a total to date of US$14,638,534. Kamen Rider Decade: All Rider Tai Dai-Shocker dropped from #4 off the chart in its sixth weekend. Kunihiko Yuyama's Pocket Monster Diamond & Pearl: Arceus Chōkoku no Jikū e, the 12th film in the Pokémon anime franchise, also fell from #9 off the chart in its ninth weekend.
