First Site to Report News Through Manga Launched

Artists turn Manga no Shimbun news stories in daily pages of manga

KaBa Net, a net services company that was just established last week, is officially launching on Thursday what it describes as the first website to report daily news through manga. Like a traditional Japanese newspaper or news website, the "Manga de Yomu News: Manga no Shimbun" (News Read Through Manga: The Manga Newspaper) site posts stories in politics, business, international issues, society, arts, sports, and special features. Unlike other news sources, a team of manga artists draws a few pages of manga for each story, instead of just text and photographs. Naturally, the editorial department posted a two-page manga to greet readers on the first day and to explain the website's news-reporting process.

The first week's stories include the test trials for a future bullet train model, a soccer game, the launch of five North Korean missiles, Hiroshima and Nagasaki's push to co-host the 2020 Olympics, U.S. President Barack Obama's Nobel Peace Prize win, and the life-size Gundam and Tetsujin 28-gō/Gigantor statues.
