Atlus Acquires Online Game Company Gonzo Rosso

posted on by Egan Loo

Atlus, the game subsidiary of Index Holdings, announced last Thursday that it has decided to acquire the Gonzo Rosso, a company which specializes in online games. Atlus is acquiring a 54.6% share of Gonzo Rosso for 460 milllion yen (about US$5.1 million). Gonzo Rosso was once tied to the Gonzo anime studio before GDH, the parent of both companies, decided to divest itself of Gonzo Rosso in March. Under the announced plan, Gonzo Rosso will become a consolidated subsidiary of Atlus.

The company that became Gonzo Rosso was established in 1963, and its current head is Fumiaki Goto. Among its titles are Master of Epic –The Resonance Age Universe–, Shaiya -Light and Darkness-, and The Tower of Druaga – the Recovery of BABYLIM -. Its capital is worth 862,000,000 yen (about US$9.54 million). Earlier this year, GDH owned 54.56% of Gonzo Rosso's stocks, while the toy manufacturer Takara Tomy still owns 14.0%. In the fiscal year ending in March of 2008, Gonzo Rosso racked up 1.635 billion yen (about US$16.8 million) in sales and garnered 36 million yen (US$370,000) in profit.
