Chi's Sweet Home Manga's 7th Volume to Bundle Anime

Original 10-minute episode with anime debut of manga character Kocchi

The limited edition for the seventh volume of Kanata Konami's Chi's Sweet Home manga will bundle an original animation DVD and a special case when it ships on April 23. Kodansha's official website for the manga is taking pre-orders for the limited edition until February 15.

Unlike the 2-minute episodes in the Chi's Sweet Home television series, the episode on the manga's original animation DVD will be 10 minutes long. The DVD episode will retain the same production staff and voice cast as the television series, but it will feature Kocchi — a popular manga character who has yet to appear in anime until now.

Chi's Sweet Home centers around a kitten who gets lost after walking out into the real world for the first time. A boy named Yōhei Yamada discovers her, but the Yamada family's apartment building prohibits pets. After failing to find a new home, the Yamadas decide to defy the rules and raise Chi themselves. Most of Chi's coming-of-age stories revolve around the Yamadas or the cats, dogs, and the occasional rabbit that live in the neighborhood. The manga has been running in Kodansha's Morning magazine since 2004, and the sixth compiled book volume shipped in Japan last April.

Vertical confirmed at the New York Anime Festival in September that it will publish the manga in North America. A television anime adaptation premiered in March of 2008, and the second anime series debuted this past April. The Crunchyroll website has been streaming the second television anime series.
