Japanese Box Office, January 16-17

Nodame, One Piece, Tsuri Baka Nisshi, Kamen Rider stay in top 10, Higanjima falls

Nodame Cantabile Saishū Gakushō Zen-Pen (Nodame Cantabile: The Final Score Part I), the first film in a two-part theatrical finale inspired by Tomoko Ninomiya's Nodame Cantabile musical romance manga, stayed at #2 on Kogyo Tsushinsha's Japanese box office chart during the January 16-17 weekend. According to Variety and Rentrak Theatrical, it earned US$1,543,953 on 409 screens during its fifth weekend for a total-to-date of US$35,895,411.

One Piece Film Strong World, the 10th anime film based on Eiichiro Oda's One Piece pirate manga, fell from #4 to #6. In its sixth weekend, it added US$1,063,584 on 193 screens to its total of US$47,918,186.

Tsuri Baka Nisshi 20: Final (Free and Easy 20: Final), the film based on Juzo Yamasaki and Kenichi Kitami's Tsuri Baka Nisshi (Diary of a Fishing Fool) comedy manga, fell from #5 to #8 (#9 on Rentrak Theatrical's chart). It earned US$421,732 on 176 screens in its fourth weekend for a total-to-date of US$7,273,894. The movie was announced last April as the last chapter in the venerable movie franchise.

Kamen Rider × Kamen Rider Double & Decade: Movie War 2010 fell from #6 (#7 on Rentrak Theatrical's chart) to #10. It earned US$323,888 on 266 screens in its sixth weekend to add to its US$16,395,843 total.

Tae-Gyun Kim's live-action film adaptation of Kōji Matsumoto's Higanjima supernatural horror manga fell off the charts after debuting at #9 last weekend.

James Cameron's Avatar science-fiction action movie stayed at #1 for the fourth straight weekend, earning a weekend box office take of US$5,606,688 and a total-to-date of US$65,211,354.
