Stan Lee, Bones' Heroman TV Anime Dated for April

posted on by Egan Loo

The website of the Japanese publisher Square Enix has announced that the Heroman anime from American comic pioneer Stan Lee and the BONES anime studio will premiere on TV Tokyo's network in April. Lee is the co-creator of Spider-Man, X-Men, and several other titles from Marvel Comics, while Bones animated Fullmetal Alchemist and Soul Eater, among other anime.

According to the May 2008 issue of Kadokawa Shoten's Newtype magazine, the story of Heroman will center on a boy named Joey who discovers a toy robot near the west coast of the United States. The toy becomes Heroman, a giant robot that Joey pilots against evil threats.

Tamon Ōta already launched a manga version in Square Enix's Monthly Shonen Gangan magazine on August 12. The anime subcontractor Studio Wanpack has been updating its progress on Heroman anime's production since last year.

Pow! Entertainment, Lee's current production company, is producing a separate manga series called Ultimo with manga creator Hiroyuki Takei (Shaman King), Shueisha's Jump Square magazine, and Viz Media's Shonen Jump magazine. Last year, Lee was also developing an animated television series named Quartz with GDH, which was the corporate parent of the Gonzo anime studio, but his website no longer lists Quartz as an active project. Last month, Disney gained "enhanced rights to the creative output of Pow! Entertainment as well as exclusive consulting services" and invested US$2.5 million into Pow! Entertainment.
