The April issue of Kinema-Junpo's DVD Navigator magazine is announcing that Pony Canyon's first six volumes of the K-ON! anime have won the DVD of the Year 2009 award in the TV Anime/OVA category. Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment's (WDSHE's) Ponyo won the overall Grand Prix award as well as the Theatrical Anime award. TC Enterainment's limited first pressing of Rookies ~Sotsugyō- Last DVD Album, the spinoff from the manga-based live-action film, won the Special Video category, while WDSHE's My Neighbor Totoro won the Long-Seller Award. In the separate Video of the Year 2009 Awards, Ponyo and One Piece won the Theatrical Anime and TV/Original Anime categories, respectively.

On Wednesday, both K-ON! and the female idol group AKB48 won the Special Awards in The Japan Gold Disc Award 2010 competition. The Recording Industry Association of Japan recognizes the best-selling CDs and other related releases with these awards.

The musical group supercell was one of the The Best 5 New Artists winners in the domestic category, and Susan Boyle won in the Western category. Arashi's "My Girl" theme for the manga-based drama of the same name earned one of the honors in The Best 5 Singles category. The manga-based, live-action Nodame Cantabile Saishū Gakushō (Nodame Cantabile: The Final Score) films earned the Soundtrack Album of the Year award.
