Haruhi Film Strip Auction Ends at 356,000 Yen

US$3,990 film bookmark depicts key scene between Yuki Nagato, Kyon

Not-So-Daily Link of the Day: The auction for a film strip randomly given to a repeat viewer of The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya movie just ended on Monday evening at 356,000 yen (about US$3,990). To encourage fans to watch the movie again, the producers launched a "Film Bookmark Repeater Campaign" late last month. Fans can redeem the two movie ticket stubs for a bookmark made from the 35mm film reels of the movie. (At least one of the ticket stubs has to be dated on February 27 or later.)

The auctioned film strip comes from a key scene in the movie between the characters Yuki Nagato and Kyon. At 11:35 p.m. on Monday — just three days after the campaign officially started and less than two days after the auction began — the auction ended with 233 bids. The final bid has yet to be verified.

The first ever movie in the Haruhi Suzumiya franchise adapts the fourth volume from Nagaru Tanigawa and Noizi Ito's original light novel series about an eccentric, assertive girl who creates her own school club for her strange antics. The movie just marked its fourth weekend at the Japanese box office, and it earned the equivalent of US$3,850,649 after its third weekend.
