Tokyo's Yonezawa Library Puts 1,800 Anime Mags on Display

As of April 25, the Yoshihiro Yonezawa Memorial Library of Manga and Subcultures has made 1,800 issues of its anime magazines available for public browsing in Tokyo. The available anime magazines include out-of-print publications such as Animec (87 issues), My Anime (80 issues), and The Anime (69 issues). Dōjinshi-centered publications such as Monthly Out (229 issues), Fanroad (116 issues), and Aniparo Comics (61 issues) are also available.
Meiji University opened the library with more than 100,000 publications last October. In addition to the Yonezawa Memorial Library, the university also plans to open the tentatively titled Tokyo International Manga Library in 2014. The university plans to house two million items of manga, anime, games, and other media in the new library facility.
Run by Meiji University, the Yonezawa Memorial Library is named after Comic Market co-founder and prolific manga scholar Yoshihiro Yonezawa, who passed away in 2006. Yonezawa posthumously won a Special Award at the Seiun Awards in 2007, and in 2010 was the recipient of the Special Prize in the 14th Annual Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize awards. Yonezawa co-founded Comiket, the largest dōjinshi market event in the world, wrote a string of award-winning essays about manga's place in popular culture, and also visited North America for several anime conventions.
