Oricon: One Piece #57 is Best-Selling Book Since 2008

posted on by Egan Loo
Latest volume of Eiichiro Oda's manga sold 2.282 million copies in 10 weeks

The Oricon survey firm reports that the 57th volume of Eiichiro Oda's One Piece pirate manga has sold 2.282 million copies as of May 9 — thus making it the #1 best-selling book since Oricon began posting its book ranking charts in 2008. The volume shipped 10 weeks ago on March 4. The previous record-holder, the 53rd volume from the same manga series, sold 2.280 million copies after 61 weeks.

Shueisha published 3 million copies of the 57th volume in the largest first-printing run ever for any book in Japan, surpassing the 2.9 million copies of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. The 57th volume sold 1.69 million copies in its first week of sales alone. By the second week, it also became the fastest manga volume to sell 2 million copies on Oricon's charts.
