Yamaga: New Gainax Work to be Based on Novel (Updated)

posted on by Gia Manry
Story about boy, girl collecting magical books in 1920s Great Britain

Update: In an interview with ANN, Gainax anime studio co-founder and acting president Hiroyuki Yamaga revealed additional details about an upcoming, untitled Gainax project. The project will be based on a novel set in 1920s England and revolves around a boy and a girl who collect magical books. Yamaga noted that he was having difficulty pinning down the setting for the book, which requires both a '20s feel and cars. Yamaga added that full details of the new project will be announced in Japan at the end of June.

Gainax's next project is the previously announced television series Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt. During his "History of Gainax" panel at FanimeCon in California on May 29, Yamaga confirmed that the work after Panty & Stocking would be more "refined" than Panty & Stocking and set in 20th-century Great Britain.

Update: Gakuto Mikumo's Bibliotheca Mystica de Dantalian (Dantalian no Shoka) light novel series has an anime adaptation in the works. In this story, a young man meets a girl who handles the Bibliotheca Mystica de Dantalian, the forbidden books of demonic wisdom. The story is set in London around 1920 (after World War I) and features cars.

More details about the Bibliotheca Mystica de Dantalian (Dantalian no Shoka) anime will be provided in the August issue of Kadokawa Shoten's The Sneaker magazine on June 30. Starting on June 30, Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko imprint will be adding a wraparound jacket band to volumes of Bibliotheca Mystica de Dantalian. Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko already confirmed that the jacket band will say "Anime Adaptation in The Works!" but the rest of the jacket band's text is being kept secret until its release.

Update 2: The Sneaker magazine has confirmed that Gainax is animating Bibliotheca Mystica de Dantalian. [Via 2channel]
