Former Shueisha President Naoyoshi Taniyama passed away on July 11 at 12:32 a.m. due to multiple organ failure. He was 73.

Taniyama joined Shueisha in 1961, and he eventually edited the shōjo manga magazine Margaret. Among the titles he edited was Chikako Urano's Attack No. 1. He also became the editor-in-chief of the Japanese version of the women's fashion magazine Seventeen, as well as its manga magazine spinoff You. He became a board director of Shueisha in 1991, and was eventually elevated to the post of president in 2000 and later chairman of the board. From 2003 to 2009, he served as the board chairman of The Japan Magazine Advertising Association.

His family is planning a private funeral service, but a farewell memorial is also being planned for a later date.
