Yahoo! Japan has announced on Tuesday that it will launch an app with Shueisha's Jump SQ. 19 magazine for Apple's iPad device on Thursday in Japan. There will actually be at least two apps; the first app will be free when it launches on Thursday with the entire inaugural issue of Jump SQ. 19, a spinoff magazine based on Shueisha's Jump Square magazine. The first issue of Jump SQ. 19 went into print on May 19 with manga such as Mizuki Kawashita's G-Maru Edition, Usamaru Furuya's Teiichi no Kuni, the return of Yasuhiro Nightow's Kekkai Sensen, and Kentarō Yabuki's adaptation of Tomohiro Matsu and Peco's Mayoi Neko Overrun! light novel series.

The second app will debut on August 26 with both the first and second Jump SQ. 19 issues and special bonus wallpaper for 450 yen (about US$5.30). The print version of the second issue will ship on Thursday for 650 yen (US$7.60). 19 of the 23 titles in the print edition of the second issue will also be in the digital edition. While Yahoo! Japan has released many apps for Apple's iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad devices, this will be the company's first paid app.

The magazine title (pronounced "Jump S Q Ichi Kyū") is inspired by the magazine's shipping schedule: every quarter on May 19, August 19, November 19, and February 19. The apps are part of the larger collaboration between Yahoo! Japan and Shueisha in the electronic book field, which includes putting over 3,000 pages from 21 Weekly Shonen Jump titles online for free.
