Japanese Box Office, September 18-19

Live-action Umizaru 3, Gundam 00 open at #1 & #3; Beck drops to #5

The Umizaru: The Last Message, the third live-action film based on Shuho Sato's manga about the Japanese Coast Guard, opened at #1 with US$11,333,086 on 467 screens during the September 18-19 weekend.

Mobile Suit Gundam 00 the Movie: A Wakening of the Trailblazer, the sequel to the two Mobile Suit Gundam 00 television series, opened at #3 with US$2,260,690 on just 88 screens.

The live-action film adaptation of Harold Sakuishi's Beck manga dropped from #3 to #5. In its third weekend, it earned US$1,610,768 more on 316 screens to add to its total of US$13,867,445.

Hiromasa Yonebayashi and Studio Ghibli's The Borrowers (Karigurashi no Arrietty) anime film also dropped from #5 to #8 on Kogyo Tsushinsha's box office chart during its 10th weekend. According to Box Office Mojo, the movie earned US$907,164 on 353 screens to add its total of US$104,305,919.

The double billing of Metal Fight Beyblade VS Taiyō Shakunetsu no Shinryakusha and Duel Masters: Honō no Kizuna XX!! fell from #10 to #13 in its fifth weekend. It added US$173,585 on 216 screens for a gross-to-date of US$5,737,369.

The newest Pokémon movie, Pocket Monster Diamond & Pearl: Genei no Hasha Zoroark, is no longer listed on the box office charts.
