Dark Horse's Gombos: Another Firm Re-Licensed Tenjho Tenge

DC Comics' CMX Manga had published 18 of 22 volumes from Oh! great's manga

Michael Gombos, the director of Asian licensing at Dark Horse Comics, revealed during this week's ANNCast that another company has re-licensed the Tenjho Tenge (Tenten) manga series for North America. Dark Horse Comics had attempted to acquire the title, but another company picked it up instead. Gombos also discussed the three new titles that Dark Horse Comics is announcing on Friday: Yasuhiro Nightow's Bloodline Battlefront (Kekkai Sensen), Kouta Hirano's Drifters, and Yoshitaka Amano's Shinjuku Azul.

DC Comics' CMX Manga imprint had published the 18th manga volume of Tenjho Tenge last year, before DC shut the imprint down this past July. The CMX edition of this title drew criticism for its editing.

The manga creator who goes by the name Oh! great (Ōgure-Ito) launched the manga in Shueisha's Ultra Jump magazine in 1998. He just ended the manga in the same magazine this past August, and the 22nd volume is slated to ship next month. The manga inspired a 2004 television anime series (which Geneon Entertainment released in English), as well as a television special and a video sequel.

Ed Chavez, the marketing director of the North American publisher Vertical, had asked people to suggest which manga titles Vertical should license via his Twitter account in June. When asked about Tenjho Tenge, Chavez responded, "Tenten...expect to see it from someone else."
