Ghibli's Arrietty Film Watched 7.5 Million+ Times

The official blog for Hiromasa Yonebayashi and Studio Ghibli's Karigurashi no Arrietty film has announced on Tuesday that the film has been seen over 7.5 million times. This is the all-time record for a Japanese film directed by a first-time director. Ghibli co-founder Hayao Miyazaki planned and wrote this film, which is based on The Borrowers (Yukashita no Kobito-tachi) novel by the late English author Mary Norton.
Arrietty is only the fourth feature film not directed by Miyazaki or his mentor and Ghibli co-founder Isao Takahata. The other films are Whisper of the Heart (Yoshifumi Kondô), The Cat Returns (Hiroyuki Morita), and Tales from Earthsea (Goro Miyazaki). (Tomomi Mochizuki directed the television special Ocean Waves in 1993.)
Karigurashi no Arrietty sold 1,038,138 tickets in the first three days of its theatrical run. According to Box Office Mojo, it has earned US$109,346,630 as of Sunday.
