Spice and Wolf Light Novel Series to End in February

Isuna Hasekura's 16th volume to have 2nd half of final Taiyō no Kinka storyline

ASCII Media Works' "Dengeki Bunko Bootleg" email newsletter has confirmed that the 16th volume of Isuna Hasekura's Spice and Wolf (Ōkami to Kōshinryō) light novel series will be the final volume when it ships on February 10, 2011. The Temple Knights website notes that there is still the possibility of future Spice and Wolf short stories. The 15th volume (pictured at right) had already confirmed in September that the series is "entering the final story arc at last." (The 15th and 16th volumes make up the two halves of the "Taiyō no Kinka" storyline.)

Spice and Wolf is the acclaimed novel series that avoids the usual sword-and-sorcery trappings of fantasy stories and focuses on how business (and religion) gets done in a medieval world — with a wolf girl. In the story, a peddler discovers a wolf girl who wants to return to her northern home after serving as a town's goddess of harvest for many years. The peddler strikes a deal to bring the wolf girl north, and she brings him both prosperity and unwanted attention from the church.

Yen Press will publish the third volume of the light novel series this month, and it published the second volume of Keito Koume's manga adaptation in July. Funimation licensed the two television anime series based on the light novel series.
