Ikoku Meiro no Croisée, Tōfu Kozō Promos Streamed

posted on by Egan Loo

The official website for the television anime adaptation of Hinata Takeda's Ikoku Meiro no Croisée (La croisée dans un labyrinthe étranger) manga revamped itself on Wednesday with a stream of its first promotional video. Unlike a previous video, this new video contains actual animated footage. The story follows a girl named Yune who arrives in the lower-class neighborhoods of Paris in the last half of the 19th century, when Japanese culture gains popularity in Europe. She ends up working at an ironworks shop with a boy named Claude.

Kenji Yasuda (Shugo Chara! franchise) is directing the project's animators at the studio Satelight. Junichi Satō (Aria, Kaleido Star, Princess Tutu) is not only supervising the story that Mamiko Ikeda (D.C. ~Da Capo~, Emma: A Victorian Romance, Himawari!) is scripting, but he is also directing the soundtrack. The anime will premiere in Japan this summer.

The movie news source Cinema Today began streaming the 124-second full trailer for the Tōfu Kozō ("Tofu Boy") anime film on Tuesday. The 3D computer-animated film adapts the Tōfu Kozō Sugoroku-dōchū Furidashi novel by Natsuhiko Kyōgoku (Loups-Garous, Mōryō no Hako, Requiem from the Darkness). According to traditional Japanese folklore, a boyish spirit waits along country roads and tricks travelers into eating a piece of deadly tofu. In Kyogoku's retelling, Tōfu Kozō (actress Kyōko Fukada) is a spirit in search of his own identity; he wanders the countryside to discover the reason and meaning for his existence. In the anime film's "humorous" re-imagining, the diminutive spirit embarks on a series of adventures in search of his mother.

The film will open in Japanese theaters in traditional 2D and stereoscopic 3D on April 28.
