Seikon no Qwaser II, Tatsumi's Promo Videos Streamed

2nd Qwaser TV anime in April; film of Yoshihiro Tatsumi's bio manga this spring

The official website for the Seikon no Qwaser anime franchise posted an 83-second promotional video for the upcoming Seikon no Qwaser II television series. Like the first anime series, the second series adapts Hiroyuki Yoshino and Kenetsu Satou's manga. Director Hiraku Kaneko, series script supervisor Makoto Uezu, and other staff members will reprise their respective roles when the new series premieres on April 11.

Last week, the technology company Hewlett Packard posted a five-minute video about the making of Tatsumi, Singaporean filmmaker Eric Khoo's animated adaptation of Yoshihiro Tatsumi's semi-autobiographical manga A Drifting Life. The majority of the video discusses the process of animating Tatsumi's original artwork through the addition of motion (similar to DC Comics's Watchman Motion Comics) and color.

A Drifting Life originally shipped in Japan in November of 2008 as a two-volume series. The Canadian comic book publisher Drawn & Quarterly picked up the North American license and released the manga as a single, 840-page volume in April of 2009.

The manga is based on a semi-autobiographical account of Tatsumi's struggle to make a living after World War II. Tatsumi and others began challenging normal standards of manga drawing by pioneering a nontraditional gekiga style of storytelling and art design. The film is slated to open this spring.
