Steins;Gate Anime's Final BD/DVD to Include Special

posted on by Egan Loo
TV series to have 24 episodes+special on 9 BD/DVD volumes

The official website of the Steins;Gate television anime series confirmed on Saturday that the ninth and final Blu-ray Disc/DVD volume of the anime will include a special. The first two volumes and the last volume will each have two regular episodes, and the other volumes will have three episodes; the total number of listed episodes is 24 regular episodes plus the special.

The Blu-ray/DVD volumes will ship every month between June 22, 2011 and February 22, 2012. The television series itself will premiere on April 5. The anime adapts the "scientific adventure game" of the same name from 5pb. and Nitroplus.

The story of the original game revolves around the eccentric college student Rintarō "Okarin" Okabe and his "Mirai Gadget Kenkyūsho" ("Future Gadget Laboratory") circle of friends in a realistic version of Tokyo's Akihabara district. The friends turn a microwave oven into a machine that sends email messages to the past, and that attracts the attention of a mysterious organization called SERN. Kadokawa Shoten is porting the game to the Sony PSP system on June 23 with a Mirai Gadget Kenkyūsho white coat, slippers, and a "denwa range" ("telephone oven") strap as limited-edition extras.

The limited first edition Blu-ray Discs will each feature a box with a new illustration by original character designer huke; a special booklet with designs and cast/staff interviews; a special filmstrip from the actual anime; and a "Mirai Gadget CD" with character song, original drama, soundtrack, or discussion content. Both the Blu-ray Discs and the DVDs will each have a jacket cover by anime character designer Kyuuta Sakai, as well as a form for a mail-away present for buyers who get every volume.
