To Aru Hikūshi e no Tsuioku, Priest Promos Streamed

Madhouse's light novel-based film opens this fall; manhwa-based Priest opens May 13

The YouTube channel of Kadokawa Marketing's MovieWalker website began streaming a promotional video for Jun Shishido and Madhouse's To Aru Hikūshi e no Tsuioku anime film on Friday. Koroku Inumura's original To Aru Hikūshi e no Tsuioku (Flashbacks to a Certain Aerial Pilot) light novel revolves around Charles Karino, a Revaamu Empire mercenary aerial pilot who mans the twin-seater reconnaissance seaplane Santa Cruz. One day, he receives a preposterous assignment: to fly solo over 12,000 kilometers of enemy waters to protect a girl named Fana del Moral. Fana happens to be the next in line to the empire's throne.

Shishido directed The Story of Saiunkoku and Hajime no Ippo: New Challenger before tackling this project. Satoko Okudera (Summer Wars, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time) wrote the new film's screenplay, and Hidenori Matsubara (Ah! My Goddess/Sakura Wars character designer, new Evangelion films' animation director) adapted its character designs from Haruyuki Morisawa's original novel illustrations. The TMS Entertainment-produced film will open this fall.

Yahoo! Movies also posted a 70-second promotional video for Scott Stewart's loose live-action adaptation of the Korean manhwa Priest on Friday. Hyung Min-woo created the original manhwa that Tokyopop released in North America. The trailer features Paul Bettany as the titular priest Ivan Isaacs, Cam Gigandet as Sheriff Hicks, Maggie Q as the Priestess, Lily Collins as Isaacs' kidnapped niece Lucy, and Karl Urban as Black Hat. The "Rope Dart" video focuses on the Priestess character.

After three delays, the movie is now slated for release in 2D and stereoscopic 3D on May 13.
