Moyoco Anno Draws 1st Story Manga Since 2008 Hiatus

Anno's "20 Years" 1-shot is part of Feel Young magazine's 20th anniversary

On Friday, the August issue of Shodensha's Feel Young magazine is publishing "20 Years," the first story manga that Moyoco Anno (Flowers and Bees, Happy Mania, Sugar Sugar Rune, Sakuran) has drawn since she went on hiatus in 2008.

Despite her hiatus from story manga, Anno has continued to draw essay and newspaper manga every week. She also drew art to encourage Japan after the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake (Higashi Nihon Daishinsai) disaster of March 11.

The special four-page, one-shot "20 Years" manga is part of Feel Young's 20th anniversary celebration. Anno has not published a manga in Feel Young since the final installment of the Kantoku Fuyukitodoki essay manga in the January 2005 issue, six years and seven months ago. She also has not published a story manga (as opposed to essay manga) there since "Tokyo Bangaichi" in the January 2004 issue, seven years and seven months ago.

The other works in Feel Young's 20th anniversary celebration include Peco Watanabe's "Hitohada," Sumako Kari's "Usuku Teawai," Katsura Murakami's "His Birthday," and Natsuo MOTOMACHI's "Natsufuku ni Kigaereba" (MOTOMACHI's first story manga in a women's magazine).

Viz Media published Anno's Flowers and Bees manga in North America, Tokyopop published Happy Mania, and Del Rey published Sugar Sugar Rune.

The August issue of Feel Young also continues Usagi Drop Bangai-Hen, Yumi Unita's spinoff manga to her recently concluded Bunny Drop (Usagi Drop) manga. A bundled DVD introduces the July anime series adaptation of Usagi Drop and the August live-action film adaptation. Yen Press is publishing the Bunny Drop manga, and Crunchyroll, Siren Visual, and ANN are streaming the anime outside Japan.
