Japanese Box Office, August 20-21

Kokuriko-Zaka Kara, Goro Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli's anime adaptation of Chizuru Takahashi and Tetsurō Sayama's shōjo coming-of-age manga, climbed from No. 5 to No. 4 in its sixth weekend on Kogyo Tsushinsha's chart. It stayed at No. 4 on Box Office Mojo's chart. It earned US$2,129,226 on 457 screens for a new total of US$44,732,389.

Screening in its third weekend, the double feature Gekijō Kamen Rider OOO: Wonderful Shōgun to 21 no Core Medal and Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger the Movie Sora-Tobu Yūreisen fell from No. 4 to No. 5 on Kogyo Tsushinsha's box office chart and down to No. 6 on Box Office Mojo's chart. They earned the equivalent of US$1,814,227 on 397 screens for a new total of US$17,463,946.

This year's two Pokémon films, counted together, stayed at No. 6 in their sixth weekend on Kogyo Tsushinsha's chart, but dropped to No. 7 on Box Office Mojo's chart. Combined, Gekijōban Pocket Monster Best Wishes! Victini to Kuroki Eiyū Zekrom and Gekijōban Pocket Monster Best Wishes! Victini to Shiroki Eiyū Reshiram earned US$1,664,989 on 352 screens for a grand total of US$47,320,105.

The live-action film adaptation Yumi Unita's Usagi Drop (Bunny Drop) film opened at #9 with US$1,295,827 on 110 screens.

In its third weekend on the big screens, the manga-based, live-action film adaptation of Kochira Katsushika-ku Kamearikouen-mae Hashutsujo: The Movie: Kachidoki-bashi o Heisa seyo! saw fell from No. 8 to No. 11. It earned US$649,814 on 277 screens, grossing a total of US$8,194,130.

Takashi Miike's live-action film adaptation of Soubee Amako's Rakudai Ninja Rantarō/Nintama Rantarō manga and anime fell from No. 10 to No. 13 in its fifth weekend. It earned US$470,883 more on 217 screens for a new total of US$10,776,262.

Naruto Shippūden: Blood Prison, the eighth Naruto anime film, dropped from No.9 to No. 14 in its fourth weekend. It earned US$465,183 more on 206 screens for a new total of US$8,984,962. Masahiko Murata is the director of the film with a script by Akira Higashiyama.

Soreike! Anpanman: Sukue! Kokorin to Kiseki no Hoshi is no longer listed on either chart. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 remained the No. 1 film.
