Weekly Wrapup 21/Aug - 27/Aug

posted on by Georgia Blair
Madman adds old and new anime alike to its catalogue, production troubles for the final Negima anime, a big send-off for superheroes, and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is so fabulous that even Gucci knows it.

Madman Entertainment announced new acquisitions at the Manifest anime convention over the weekend. Madman presented the first episode of Last Exile -Fam, The Silver Wing- in special preview screenings during the convention and announced that the series will be simulcast on its website when it begins broadcasting in October. During its panel on Sunday, Madman also announced that it has acquired Fairy Tail, Rosario + Vampire and the OVAs and television series of the classic mecha series Patlabor.

Details have been revealed for the Tiger & Bunny ~Arigatou! Soushite, Arigatou!!~ (Tiger & Bunny ~Thank You! And Again, Thank You!!~) all-night event on September 17, the screening date for the final episode of the popular superhero anime series. The 24th and 25th episodes of the anime, with an accompanying talkshow, will be simulcast in theaters around Japan, with voice actors Hiroaki Hirata (Wild Tiger/Kotetsu T. Kaburagi) and Kōji Yusa (Lunatic/Yuri Petrov) to attend the main event at Shinjuku Wald 9 Cinema in Tokyo. Fans are encouraged to post on Twitter during the event; the show has already topped Twitter's Japan hashtags in June and July.

Part of the Magister Negi Magi: Anime Final theatrical film has been altered due to 'production issues', according to the publisher Kodansha. Kodansha did not specify which scenes were altered, but stated that it affected a scene shown during the film's promotion. An animator allegedly stated that work on animating the film began at the beginning of July despite the film coming out at the end of August, but the blog post has since been deleted. The film, which will be shown as a double feature with Hayate the Combat Butler! Heaven Is a Place on Earth, is intended to conclude the anime continuity and provide an alternate ending to Ken Akamatsu's ongoing manga.

Finally, fashion label Gucci's Shinjiku store will host an exhibition by Hirohiko Araki, creator of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, to celebrate the 90th anniversary of Gucci and the revamping of the Shinjiku store. The exhibition will feature fashion illustrations by Araki and a life-size figure of Rohan Kishibe, a fictional manga creator who first appeared in Part 4 of the long-running Jojo's Bizarre Adventures manga and who recently appeared in a 16-page manga drawn for the fashion magazine Spur, which will also be at the exhibition. Araki is celebrating the 25th anniversary of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure this year and the series has caught attention with the beginning of an eighth story arc, novelisations and rumours of a live-action movie.
