Apocalypse Zero/Kakugo no Susume Manga Gets Spinoff

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

The 28th issue of Akita Shoten's Champion RED Ichigo magazine began serializing a spinoff of Takayuki Yamaguchi's Kakugo no Sasume (Apocalypse Zero) manga on Wednesday. Shizuku Ichigono (Omuko no Hijo-sama, Hiyoko Gohan) is drawing the new manga titled Kaika no Susume.

Like its predecessor, Kaika no Susume is set in a post-apocalyptic Neo-Tokyo where monsters attacks are a constant threat. The story follows a high school girl named Tomoe Kurosu whose older brother is involved in an accident and goes to live in a ruined district.

Takayuki's original manga serialized in Akita Shoten's Weekly Shōnen Champion magazine from 1994 to 1996. Media Blasters published the first six volumes of the series in North America in 2005 and 2006. The science fiction series also received an original anime video (OAV) directed by Toshihiro Hirano in 1996.
