Mirai Nikki/Future Diary BDs/DVDs to Add Unaired Anime

posted on by Egan Loo
Blu-ray/DVD volumes to also have unedited, complete versions of TV episodes

The first of nine Blu-ray Disc and DVD volumes for the Mirai Nikki (Future Diary) television anime series will ship on December 22, and some of the volumes will include unaired segments called "Ura Mirai Nikki" (B-Side/Reverse Future Diary). The second and fourth volumes are currently slated to have unaired "Ura Mirai Nikki" segments when they ship on January 27 and March 30 of next year. The Blu-ray Disc and DVD volumes will also have the "unedited, complete footage" of episodes that were modified or cut for broadcast.

The first volume will have two episodes (along with credit-less opening and ending animation footage, commercials, and promotional videos), while the last 8 volumes will have three episodes each. The limited edition of the first Blu-ray Disc volume will also bundle a soundtrack CD, an illustrated mouse pad, a sleeve illustrated by original manga creator Sakae Esuno, and a jacket illustrated by character designer Hidetsugu Hirayama.

The anime adapts Esuno's suspense action manga, which already inspired a "pilot" anime that came bundled with the 11th manga volume on a premium anime DVD last December. Tokyopop licensed the manga in North America and released 10 volumes before it shut down its North American publishing operations. The manga can currently be read on the JManga website. The 12th and final volume of the manga shipped in Japan in April.

The television anime premiered in Japan on October 9.
