FUNimation Entertainment announced on Tuesday that it has acquired the broadcast, home video, merchandising, mobile, and streaming rights the television anime adaptation of Ichiei Ishibumi's High School DxD light novel series. Funimation added that it will simulcast the series on Mondays starting on January 23, and the company plans to release the series on DVD and Blu-ray Disc.

High School DxD's story follows Issei Hyōdō, a dim-witted, lecherous second-year high school student who is killed by a girl on his first date ever. Issei (Yūki Kaji) is reincarnated as a devil, and from that day forward, he serves as an underling of Riasu (Yōko Hikasa), a high-level devil who is also the prettiest girl on Issei's campus.

Tetsuya Yanagisawa is directing at the anime studio TNK with script writer Takao Yoshioka and character designer Junji Gotō. The six monthly Blu-ray Disc/DVD volumes for the High School DxD television anime series will ship between March 21 and August 22, and each volume will have an original video.

The anime premiered in Japan on January 6.
