Hulu Plus Adds Nintendo Wii Access

posted on by Justin Sevakis

Video streaming service Hulu announced today in an email message that the company's Hulu Plus service is now available on the Nintendo Wii video game console. Wii owners can download the Hulu Plus app via the console's Wii Shop Channel, and use the Wii remote to navigate through the available television shows and movies. Viewers without an existing Hulu Plus subscription can apply through the device to get a two-week free trial period. Nintendo Wii does not offer high-definition video output, and so video accessed with the device is limited to standard definition.

Hulu Plus is the premium subscription service offered by website Hulu.com, which adds full seasons of several shows not available on the free service, some of which is in HD. The subscription is also required to view Hulu content on portable devices such as Android and iOS devices, as well as set-top boxes like game consoles, DVD players and Roku streaming devices. Not all anime on Hulu is available on Hulu Plus (and therefore, cannot be viewed on the Wii or any other device other than a computer), including most content from Funimation. However, many other titles, such as Naruto Shippiden, Bleach and Tiger And Bunny are viewable with Hulu Plus.

Hulu's plans for the Wii were announced in October, along with access via the Nintendo 3DS. The service noted that 3DS support will be coming "later this year."
