Manga-Inspired Liar Game: Reborn Film Gets TV Spinoff

posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
4-episode series centering on Alice character to air in March

The second film inspired by Shinobu Kaitani's Liar Game psychological thriller manga will in itself inspire a live-action television spinoff. The four-episode spinoff series, titled Alice in Liar Game, will air from March 5-8. The series will center on the 2nd film's character Alice, a member if the Liar Game organization. Child actress Mana Ashida (Usagi Drop/Bunny Drop) is returning to the spinoff to reprise the role.

In the second film, Liar Game: Reborn (Liar Game -Saisei-), Shota Matsuda (Hana Yori Dango) reprises his lead role as the genius Akiyama from Shinobu Kaitani's Liar Game psychological thriller manga. Mikako Tabe (Kimi ni Todoke) plays the heroine Yū in a new game. The film will open on March 3 in Japan.

In the original manga, a woman named Nao Kanzaki is caught in a dangerous high-stakes competition known as "Liar Game," and a genius con artist named Shinichi Akiyama (Matsuda) comes to Kanzaki's aid. The second film is set two years after the first, as the Liar Game organization starts a new game to seek vengeance.

The manga already inspired two television seasons with Matsuda in 2007 and 2009, as well as a 2010 film.
