Crunchyroll Adds Sengoku Collection TV Anime

posted on by Jennifer Sherman
Series based on Konami's social networking game to premiere on Thursday

The media site Crunchyroll announced on Tuesday that it will begin streaming the television anime adaptation of Konami's Sengoku Collection social networking service game on Thursday, April 5 at 1:30 p.m. EDT. The website will stream the series for premium members worldwide outside of Japan. Free members will also be able to view the anime in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden.

The story is set in the tumultuous Sengoku Era of historical Japan, when military masters circle the figurative throne of Japan's first shogunate. In the game, "God of War Cards" have been sealed in six hidden treasures, and fighting breaks out among those who seek the treasures. As a new military master, the player embarks on a journey to obtain the treasures by clearing quests and fighting bosses.

The anime's main character is a female re-imagining of the great warlord Oda Nobunaga. Another major character is the female version of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the first shogun of Japan.

Keiji Gotoh (Kiddy Grade, Kishin Taisen Gigantic Formula) is directing the anime produced by NAS at the studio Brains Base (Natsume's Book of Friends, Baccano!). Shijūrō Mitaka is supervising the scripts, while Katsunori Shibata (Mawaru Penguindrum, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood) is designing the characters, and Yō Yamada (Mawaru Penguindrum, 30-sai no Hoken Taiiku) is serving as music director.

Sengoku Collection will also premiere in Japan on Thursday.
