Man Arrested for Threatening Oreimo Author Tsukasa Fushimi

Unemployed man allegedly sent over 500 email messages, singled out Kuroneko character

On Thursday, police at Tokyo's Kōjimachi station arrested Noboru Aoi, a 32-year-old unemployed man who is suspected of sending threatening messages to Oreimo (Ore no Imōto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai) light novel author Tsukasa Fushimi. The suspect allegedly admitted to the charges.

According to the police, the suspect, who is from Anan City in Tokushima Prefecture, learned Fushimi's email address from the author's official website last November. Starting on November 16 at about 8:00 p.m., he allegedly sent the author more than 500 emails with threats such as "Die, fraud," "I'm figuring out your home address," and "I'll make you regret it" from his home computer. Aoi also allegedly sent Fushimi an image threatening to sever the author's head. Aoi reportedly conveyed his particular contempt for the Oreimo character Kuroneko (Ruri Gokō) and said that he was angry that only she stands out in the story.

Fushimi's Oreimo series launched in 2008, and 3.7 million copies are now in print from ASCII Media Works. The novels have inspired a manga and two television anime series adaptations.
