Narihirabashi Denki Shoten follows girl moving to Tokyo for college

This year's 11th issue of Kodansha's Evening magazine is announcing this week that Hisae Iwaoka will launch her Narihirabashi Denki Shoten (Narihirabashi Electric Appliance Store) manga series in the next issue on May 22. The story centers around Hatsune Mori, an 18-year-old who is heading off to Tokyo for college this spring. She moves into her grandmother's home in Tokyo's Narihirabashi neighborhood, right next to the newly constructed Tokyo Skytree tower. The manga will cover the next four years of Mori's life in college.

Iwaoka actually first published "Narihirabashi Denki Shoten" as a one-shot manga in this year's seventh issue of Evening in March. Iwaoka's Saturn Apartments won the Grand Prize in the Manga Division of the 15th Japan Media Arts Festival Awards. The same manga series was also honored by the American Library Association's Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) division as one of the the top 10 graphic novels for teens in 2012.
