Weekend Wrapup: 27/May - 2/May

This week we have disagreements over a bear cafe, a cat solving crimes and new title announcements in Australia;

Talking bear/cafe gag manga Shirokuma Café will go on indefinite hiatus while the author, Aloha Higa, resolves issues involved with the manga's anime adaptation. This involves the author's concerns with the production of the anime adaptation and contractual issues with the intellectual property. However the editorial department in charge of the adaptation has already accepted responsibility, apologised and Aloha Higa is now looking over designs and scripts as part of the production.

Manga-ka Kenji Sonishi (Neko Ramen) has started a new 4-koma manga called Neko Tantei following a cat that solves difficult cases through absurd logic. The manga will have "Case Arcs" published in Mag Garden's Comic Blade magazine and "Solution Arcs" on the Mag Garden Comic Online website. You might be familiar with Kenji Sonishi's previous work, Neko Ramen involving a cat that runs a ramen restaurant which was published in English by Tokyopop in 2010.

Entertainment trade magazine Variety reported this week that Dentsu and Hayakawa Publishing have entered into film rights agreements for notable japanese science fiction novels. Writer and director Michael Davis has agreed to produce and direct Tow Ubukata's Mardock Scramble while Don Murphy is planning on developing Issui Ogawa's science-fiction novel Tokisuna no Ou (The Lord of the Sands of Time).

Madman Entertainment has announced they will be releasing K-ON! Season 2 over two collections on Blu-Ray and DVD in September this year.

Additionally Siren Visual announced they will be releasing a complete collection of Un-Go on DVD in August.
