We Were There's Obata Launches Forget-me-not Manga

Yuuki Obata, the creator of the popular shōjo romance manga We Were There (Bokura ga Ita), launched her new manga series Forget-me-not in the September issue of Shueisha's Cookie magazine on Thursday. The story follows Umeno Shinozaki, a high school freshman girl who tries to kill herself to escape bullying. She jumps off a bridge into a river, but narrowly survives and ends up in a hospital. There, she connects with other young patients and finds the courage to get through life.
Forget-me-not is Obata's first new manga since ending We Were There in Shogakukan's Monthly Betsucomi magazine in February. Cookie originally advertised Forget-me-not as a one-shot manga story, but the September issue published the first installment and revealed that the manga will be an ongoing series. Shueisha posted a sample of the first chapter online.
We Were There inspired a television anime series from the anime studio Artland in 2006, and Takahiro Miki's two-part live-action adaptation played in theaters this past spring. Viz Media, publisher of the manga in North America since 2008, will print the 15th compiled volume in November.
