Hong Kong Film Fest to Show Wolf Children, For Love's Sake

The Hong Kong Summer International Film Festival is screening a number of Japanese live-action and anime titles this year. Included in the festival's line-up is Mamoru Hosoda's latest film, Wolf Children. The film opened July 21 in Japan after premiering in Paris on June 25.
The film's story covers 13 years and begins with a 19-year-old college student named Hana who encounters and falls in "fairy tale-like" love with a "wolf man." After marrying the wolf man, Hana gives birth and raises two Wolf Children — an older sister named Yuki ("snow") who was born on a snowy day, and a younger brother named Ame ("rain") who was born on a rainy day. When the wolf man suddenly dies, Hana decides to move to a rural town far removed from the city.
The festival also features the Hong Kong premiere of Takashi Miike's For Love's Sake's (Ai to Makoto). The musical romance action-comedy screened at the 65th Cannes Film Festival in May before opening in Japanese theaters June 16.
In Ai to Makoto, angelic high school girl named Ai Saotome tries to save "ultra" high school delinquent Makoto Taiga from himself, as he saved her many years ago. Takayuki Takuma (live-action Hana Yori Dango) adapted Ikki Kajiwara and Takumi Nagayasu's 1970s manga for the silver screen.
Also screening at the festival is Mika Ninagawa's Helter Skelter, an adaptation of Kyoko Okazaki's manga of the same title, Hideki Takeuchi's Thermae Romae, an adaptation of Mari Yamazaki's manga of the same title, and Kenji Uchida's Key of Life (Kagi Dorobo no Method).
