Mamoru Hosoda's Wolf Children Novel Tops Novel Sales Charts

Book penned by anime's director sells 44,000 in one week, 272,000 so far

According to the weekly Oricon bunkobon (pocket-sized novels) ranking ending August 19, the novel version of Mamoru Hosoda's Wolf Children film was the best-selling bunkobon of this past week with 44,000 books sold. The book, written by anime director Hosoda himself, was first released on June 22, a month before the film's release. It has sold a total of 272,000 copies so far, first premiering on the charts in 39th place and later rising to 3rd place immediately following the film's release.

As of August 12, Wolf Children ranked in second place at the Japanese box office in its fourth weekend since its release, grossing a total of US$27,996,865. Despite being licenced in 34 areas, the film has yet to be licensed in either the U.K or the U.S.
