Astronaut Successfully Dubs Space Brothers Anime From Space

posted on by Sarah Nelkin

Astronaut Akihiko Hoshide successfully finished a voice recording session for his upcoming animated appearance in the Space Brothers television series at the end of last month. Hoshide's recording took place on the International Space Station (ISS), and is the first time voice acting lines have been recorded in space. Hoshide commented on the event, saying,

“It was quite difficult, but I did my best. I am very excited to see what kind of an anime scene it will turn out to be.”

Hoshide's scene — which is unique to the anime and not in the original manga — will appear in the anime's 31st episode on November 4.

It was announced in July that the recording would take place on the ISS, with the anime staff conducting the recording at the Tsukuba Space Center in mid-September. This voyage is Hoshide's second time in space, and he is scheduled to spend four months on the ISS. While there, he will conduct experiments researching the effects of weightlessness on bone density, as well as ones involving small-scale satellites.
