One Piece Film Z Prologue to Air on Japan's NOTTV Service

"Glorious Island" penned by creator Eiichiro Oda to tie into December 15 film

Japan's new NOTTV broadcast service for mobile devices will air a One Piece anime special from December to January. The "One Piece Summit" special will feature "Glorious Island," an exclusive anime prologue to One Piece Film Z with an original story penned by manga creator Eiichiro Oda.

NOTTV is also airing One Piece television episodes 1 through 30 with extras and other content. One Piece Film Z will open in Japan on December 15. The film will feature "Z" (Zetto), the Straw Hat pirate crew's "strongest enemy yet" who was designed by Oda.

The NOTTV digital over-the-air television system launched in April in Tokyo's Kantō, Tokai, Osaka and Kyoto's Kansai, Fukuoka, and Okinawa areas. Its coverage has been expanding to the prefectures of Hiroshima, Okayama, Shizuoka, and (as of October 22) Kumamoto, and 180,000 people have been using it as of the end of September. It has a monthly fee of 420 yen (about US$5.40), but the first 31 days are free after signing up. (In theory, people in Japan have to pay an annual fee for each standard television they own.)

NTT Docomo, a Japanese mobile phone provider and the main backer of NOTTV, announced a One Piece smartphone which can receive NOTTV programming. NTT Docomo also announced new anime character voices for its Shabette Concier ("Talking Concierge") voice agent service, although not with One Piece characters.
