Funimation to Release Wolf Children, Toriko on Home Video

posted on by Egan Loo
Theatrical release also planned for latest from Summer Wars' Mamoru Hosoda

North American anime distributor Funimation announced at its New York Comic Con panel on Sunday that it licensed the anime film Wolf Children Ame and Yuki and television anime series Toriko. Funimation is planning theatrical and home media releases for Wolf Children in 2013, while it will release the first dual-language Toriko DVD set on January 8, 2013. Toriko will have an English dub with Ian Sinclair as Toriko and Joshua Grelle as Komatsu.

Wolf Children Ame and Yuki's story covers 13 years and begins with a 19-year-old college student named Hana who encounters and falls in "fairy tale-like" love with a "wolf man." After marrying the wolf man, Hana gives birth and raises two wolf children — an older sister named Yuki ("snow") who was born on a snowy day, and a younger brother named Ame ("rain") who was born on a rainy day. When the wolf man suddenly dies, Hana decides to move to a rural town far removed from the city.

The film is licensed by various companies in 43 countries and territories worldwide. It grossed 4 billion yen (about US$51 million) in its first nine weeks since its opening on July 21 and will premiere in the United States at the Hawaii International Film Fest on Wednesday.

The ongoing Toriko anime premiered in Japan in April last year. Based on Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro's manga, the story follows title character Toriko, a "bishokuya" (gourmet food provider) who travels the world to hunt down the animals and plants needed for the finest cuisine dishes. The manga inspired two specials and a 3D movie along with the anime series. Funimation has been streaming the series as it airs in Japan since its premiere last year.
