Kuroko's Basketball Threats Lead to Canceled Dōjinshi Event

Magi, Fate, High Kyū!!, Hetalia events also delayed in Osaka

The organizers at Studio You announced on Tuesday that they are canceling the "Kansai Only Festa 2012 Autumn Part 2" dōjinshi event due to the recent Kuroko's Basketball threats. The event would have taken place in Osaka on November 18, and it would have been composed of several smaller events — not just for Kuroko's Basketball, but for other manga and anime as well: Shadow Trickster Osaka (Kuroko's Basketball), Senyaichiya Osaka 3 (Magi), Ō no Utsuwa Osaka 2 (Fate), Idling Attacker Osaka (High Kyū!!), and Ii Kuni Tsukurō Sekai Kaigi 9 (Hetalia).

Since last month, more than 20 locations linked to Kuroko's Basketball creator Tadatoshi Fujimaki have received threat letters with powdered and liquid substances.

While the Kuroko's Basketball portion of Kansai Only Festa 2012 Autumn Part 2 has not been rescheduled, the other portions devoted to other franchises have been rescheduled for December 9. The rescheduled portions will still be held in the Intex Osaka event complex as previously planned.

Studio You noted that some of the threat letters were mailed from Osaka City near Intex Osaka, and one threat letter was mailed to MBS, the Osaka-based station that aired the Kuroko's Basketball anime. (The letter to MBS was signed, "Kuroko's Basketball Funeral Committee Head, the God of Death in Black.") As a result, the police in Suminoe ward discussed the matter with the event organizers on Monday and suggested that the event be cancelled to protect attendees.

The Tokyo Big Sight event complex received a threat last month, but the "Shadow Trickster 3" event devoted to Kuroko's Basketball proceeded without incident on October 20. The "Kuroko no Basuke produced by Namco Namja Town" event in Tokyo did end 19 days early as a result of the threats.
