Madman Entertainment made the announcement via their website on the 21st of November. They have acquired both Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie Part 1: Beginnings and Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie Part 2: Eternal and will release the titles on DVD, Blu-Ray and Digital in 2013.

The movies will be screened back to back as a double-feature on December 9th 2012 in the following locations;

The Puella Magi Madoka Magica movies retells the plot of the TV series, here is the description from the Madman press release;

"PUELLA MAGI MADOKA MAGICA follows the story of a young girl named Madoka Kaname. One fateful day, Madoka is offered the opportunity to gain magical powers if she agrees to make a contract with a strange little being known as a Kyubey. The Kyubey will also grant Madoka one wish, but in exchange she shall risk her life by accepting the responsibility of fighting witches. Little does Madoka know the real risks of what this contract has in-store for her."

The films reunite the staff of the TV series (studio SHAFT) with a script by Gen Urobuchi, direction from Akiyuki Shinbo and Yukihiro Miyamoto, music by Yuki Kaijura and original character designer Ume Aoki.

While the first two movies retell the TV series plot, the third movie, Gekijō-ban Mahō Shōjo Madoka Magica [Shinpen]: Hangyaku no Monogatari (to be released in 2013) will have all new plot and not be the end of the Madoka Magica story. With writer Gen Urobuchi revealing that studio SHAFT are considering a new TV series after the third film. The third film has not yet been licensed in Australia and will not be part of the premiere screenings.

The TV Series was released in Australia this year and you can obtain the series in both DVD and Blu-Ray from Madman's website.
