Maiden Japan/Section23 Films to release series digitally & on bilingual DVD

The North American anime licensing company Maiden Japan announced on Wednesday that it has licensed the Vampire Princess Miyu television anime series. Maiden Japan will release the series in conjunction with the home video distribution company Section23 Films. The two companies will release the 26-episodes series digitally and on bilingual DVD. The companies did not reveal a release window.

The series is based on Toshiki Hirano and Narumi Kakinouchi's 10-volume manga series. Hirano (Devil Lady, Angel Heart) also directed the series, with character designs by Megumi Kadonosono (Kiddy Grade, Clannad). Kenji Kawai (Ghost in the Shell, The Sky Crawlers, Eden of the East) handled the music for the series.

The series revolves around the half-human, half-vampire girl named Miyu who is trapped in a body that will remain a teenager forever. Miyu, who can walk around in the daylight but must drink blood to survive, hunts down supernatural beings who would harm the human race and sends them back to the dark realms.

Tokyopop originally released the series on VHS and DVD in 2001-2002.
