Girl rises against threat to peaceful world in anime from Strike Witches helmer Takamura

The official website for Vividred Operation — the upcoming "original new animation project" collaboration between Aniplex, ASCII Media Works' Dengeki G's Magazine and A-1 Pictures — began streaming its second promotional video on Friday.

After introducing the director Kazuhiro Takamura (Strike Witches), the video begins with the main character Akane Isshiki (voiced by Ayane Sakura) vowing, "I must do this." The story is set in a peaceful time on a dreamlike world entirely made possible by science. Five years ago, the world's energy crisis was solved with the creation of the "Expression Engine." However the tranquil, happy daily life that Akane enjoys is shattered by a threat, and Akane vows to face it in the red battle suit that wields immense power.

The other characters introduced include Akane's close friend and classmate Aoi Futaba (Rie Murakawa), the cute sword fighter Wakaba Saegusa (Yuka Ōtsubo), the brilliant hacker Himawari Shinomiya (Aya Uchida), the mysterious girl Rei Kuroki (Maaya Uchida), Akane's little sister Momo Isshiki (Asuka Ōgame), Akane's grandfather and brilliant "mad scientist" Kenjirō Isshiki (Masaki Terasoma), the mascot "beloved by all" Usokun, the national defense forces officer Mizuha Amagi (Haruka Yamazaki), and the "Expression Engine" management bureau head Yuuri Shijo (Mika Doi).

As previously revealed, Takamura is also handling the character designs for the series. Hiroyuki Yoshino (Macross Frontier, Guilty Crown) is responsible for its scripts, and A-1 Pictures (The IDOLM@STER, anohana) is handling the animation production. Hidari (Fractale, Natsu-iro Kiseki, Sasami-san@Ganbaranai) and supercell member redjuice (Guilty Crown) are contributing to the concept designs.

The anime will premiere on January 10.
