Boku ni wa Mada Tomodachi ga Inai Essay Manga Gets Live-Action Pilot

Manabu Nakagawa's comic essay Boku ni wa Mada Tomodachi ga Inai (I Still Don't Have Any Friends) is being adapted into a live-action television series pilot on the Japanese NHK's E-tele channel. The three-part pilot began running on Thursday on the audition program Aoyama 1seg Kaihatsu (The Development of the Aoyama 1seg), and will broadcast once a week for three weeks. The popular idol unit Momoiro Clover Z hosts Aoyama 1seg Kaihatsu, in which viewers watch pilots for proposed series and vote on which one they want to turn into a full regular series.
Media Factory published Nakagawa's comic essay book last May. The protagonist is based on the author himself — a 35-year-old who worked odd jobs like substitute teacher and shiitake mushroom harvester before moving to Tokyo to become a manga creator in 2011. Unfortunately, his manga does not sell, and he is very bad with people. The manga essay describes his struggles in order to make friends.
Musician and actor Kenta Hamano (Moteki, Hana no Zubora-Meshi) plays the role of Manabu. Emiko Kawamura (of the comedy duo Tanpopo) and Jirō Hachimitsu (of the comedy duo Tokyo Dynamite) also star in the live-action project.
