Psycho-Pass Character Designer Ueyama Launches New Manga

New fantasy series from Metal Guardian Faust creator launches in Monthly Young King mag

Character designer and manga artist Tetsuro Ueyama launched a new manga series in Shonengahosha's March issue of Monthly Young King on Saturday.

Tengu Girl is a fantasy story taking place in the rural Kotengu Village. Rumors have spread of a mysterious monster appearing throughout the village, and a group of high school girls gather to deal with the monster.

Ueyama published Metal Guardian Faust in 1995 and Viz released the series in a single volume in 1998. More recently he provided character designs for Production I.G's Real Drive and Psycho-Pass television anime series. Tetsuro Ueyama's older brother Michiro Ueyama (Zoids) is currently serializing his Tsumanuda Fight Town manga in Monthly Young King, and the launch of Tengu Girl marks the first time in nearly 20 years that the brothers will have manga running in the same magazine at the same time.

Tetsuro Ueyama's last manga series Sekiganjū Mitsuyoshi (One-eyed Beast Mitsuyoshi) ran in Dengeki's Monthly Comic Dengeki Daioh from 2002-2005. He restarted the series under the title Mitsuyoshi Kanketsu-hen (Mitsuyoshi: The Final Chapter) in Shueisha's JC.COM bi-monthly anthology for 10 issues from 2008-2010.

The same issue of Monthly Young King is also launching a new series by Keyaki Uchi-Uchi (Niji-iro Days), Joshi Gōsei. The story takes place in the near future where girls with special powers, called New Wave, battle one another on an island.
